These Terms of Use apply to cpeworld.org ("CPE World" or "the site"), an independent online publication based in the United States. "We," "us" and "our" mean CPE World. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
What the site is
CPE World publishes articles and briefings on business continuity, disaster recovery, crisis management, risk and emergency preparedness, written by a small group of analysts. Reading is free and needs no account. There is nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for.
General information, not advice
Everything we publish is general information. It is not legal, insurance, financial, regulatory or other professional advice, and reading it does not create a professional relationship between you and CPE World or any of its writers.
Continuity and recovery decisions depend on your organization's systems, contracts, sites and obligations, none of which we know. Regulations, standards and insurance terms change, and an article that was accurate when published can fall out of date. Before you act on something you read here, check it against current sources and, where the stakes justify it, speak to a qualified professional.
In a real emergency, follow the instructions of local officials and call 911 or your local emergency number. Our preparedness articles are no substitute for official warnings or guidance.
No warranty
We work to get the facts right and correct errors when we find them. Even so, the site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the site will always be available or free of errors.
Links to other sites
Our articles link to outside sources such as government agencies, standards bodies, researchers and vendors. We link to them because they're useful, not because we endorse them, and we don't control them. Their content, accuracy and privacy practices are their own responsibility, so check their terms before relying on them.
Our content and how you may use it
The text, images, graphics and page design on CPE World belong to us or are used under license, and they are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You're welcome to:
- read, print or save articles for your own reference, including for discussion within your organization;
- quote brief passages, with attribution to CPE World and a link to the original article; and
- share links to any page.
Without our written permission, you may not republish whole articles or substantial parts of them, reuse our images, present our work as your own or compile our content into a competing collection. Requests for permission go through the contact form.
Acceptable use
When you use the site, please don't:
- try to gain unauthorized access to the site, its server or the editorial dashboard, or probe, scan or test its security without our permission;
- interfere with the site's operation, for example by sending excessive automated requests or trying to get around Cloudflare's security checks;
- copy content in bulk by automated means;
- use the contact form to send spam, malware, threats, harassment or unlawful material; or
- claim to be affiliated with CPE World, or misrepresent who you are when you contact us.
We may block access from any address or network that breaks these rules.
Messages you send us
When you write to us through the contact form, please leave out confidential or sensitive information. If you send ideas, corrections or suggestions, we may use them to improve the site without owing you anything for them. How we handle the personal information in your message is covered by our Privacy Policy.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, CPE World and its writers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, profits or business opportunity, arising from your use of the site or your reliance on its content, even if we were told such damage was possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site will not exceed one hundred US dollars (US$100).
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain exclusions or limits of liability. Where that's the case, our liability is limited to the extent the law permits.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about the site or these terms will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you agree to their jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring the claim elsewhere.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll post the new version on this page and change the effective date. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
Other terms
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we don't enforce a provision, that doesn't mean we've waived it. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the site.
